This premier state attraction presents the treasures of Iowa's history through hands-on exhibits in amazing life-like settings that explore the people, places, events, and issues of Iowa's past. In a modern granite and glass structure at the foot of the capitol, the building boasts four major permanent exhibits, including vintage aircraft suspended from ceilings and several new temporary exhibits every year.

Located at scenic and historic Camp Dodge, the Iowa Gold Star Museum houses exhibits honoring Iowa men and women who have served the State and Nation in peace and war. A registered National Guard museum, the Gold Star Museum displays artifacts from the Civil War through the present day, including uniforms, equipment, insignia and the everyday items used by service members.
